Mobile app
Brovka: football news in a progressive web app
Football news from twelve Russian and international outlets in one feed. Foreign stories are translated into Russian automatically.
The task
News from twelve sites in five languages, read in one place, in Russian, on a phone, like a normal app.
What we built
- Feed parser with duplicate detection and club and tournament tags
- Offline translation from English, Spanish, German, Italian and French
- Installs on a phone from the browser and opens offline
- An app interface: tabs, swipes, a dark theme
An app without an app store
Brovka installs on a phone straight from the website and looks like a normal app: tabs, swipes, a dark theme, no address bar. It needs no App Store or Google Play listing, and updates arrive by themselves. How this works and when it suits a business is on the PWA app page.
Where the news comes from
The server pulls the feeds of twelve outlets, removes duplicates of the same story and tags clubs and tournaments. The same approach works for scraping prices and stock on marketplaces: collect, clean, sort.
Foreign stories are translated into Russian on our own server, with no paid external services. Any story can be switched back to the original.
Working offline
Fresh and read stories are kept on the phone, so the feed opens on the underground and on a plane. The brand is made up, the code and features are real.
