Freight company website
Ukazatel: a freight company website with a calculator on real roads
A demo website for Ukazatel, a made-up freight company in Chelyabinsk: a calculator on real road distances, 8 routes across Russia and 15 articles for people who ship goods.

The task
A shipper calls to ask what it costs to move three tonnes to Novosibirsk, then goes away to think. They should work out the price and the transit time themselves, and read about waybills, groupage and claims on the website instead of calling the dispatcher.
What we built
- A calculator on roads between 21 cities: price, transit time and a comparison of every truck that fits
- 15 articles of 1,200-1,300 words for queries from Yandex and Google suggestions
- A motorway sign style: menu items as exits, services as cargo labels, a departures board
- 39 pages, Lighthouse on mobile 99-100, a page weighs 63-79 KB
A made-up company, real distances
Ukazatel does not exist. The name, warehouse, fleet, groupage schedule and rates were invented, and a yellow strip on every page says no orders are taken. The request form checks the fields and answers on the page. Nothing goes to a server. The road distances, the motorways and the legal facts in the articles are real.
15 articles for what shippers ask a search engine
The articles are the main part of the site. Topics come from Yandex and Google suggestions collected on 14 October 2026. Among them are “how to calculate the cost of freight”, “what is groupage cargo”, “electronic waybill from 1 September 2026” and “claim to a carrier for damaged cargo template”. Each query got an article of 1,200-1,300 words with worked examples.
Legal facts were checked against laws, resolutions and orders as of 14 October 2026. Every article ends with its sources and opens with an “up to date as of” date. How a site like this is built for a real company is on the freight company website page.
The calculator measures roads, not straight lines
Distances between 21 cities come from the OSRM router on OpenStreetMap data. The client picks the cities, enters weight and volume, chooses a truck and can tick part load. The site shows the price, the transit time and every truck the cargo fits in, with the formulas on the same page.
One file, calc-core.js, does the maths. At build time it fills the price tables on the pages, and in the browser it runs the calculator, so the numbers always match.
A header like a gantry over the motorway
The site is a motorway direction sign: a blue field, a white border, amber only on buttons. Menu items are numbered like exits, services are cargo labels with a barcode, and the groupage schedule is a departures board. Fonts: Overpass and IBM Plex Mono. Light and dark themes.
- 39 pages in the sitemap: 7 services, 8 routes, 15 articles, the calculator, prices, FAQ.
- Lighthouse 13 on mobile, all 39 pages: performance 99-100, the other scores 100.
- LCP 1.4-1.6 s, CLS 0, a page weighs 63-79 KB.
- No JavaScript framework on the pages, the calculator is an inline module.
